The OPEN SIM WHEEL (OSW) began being a DO IT YOURSELF project of a Direct Drive FFB with REAL FORCES and a price cheaper than other brands. But right now there are already many manufacturers that market them.
¿How can i get a Direct Drive base?
COMPONENTS
- Servo motor
- Driver motor (Before Argon or Ioni. Now Simucube 1 and 2.)
- USB controller
- Power Supply
- Motor stand
- Steering wheel adapter
- Resistance, cables and connectors
The most popular model was the one with the engine SMALL or BIG MIGE and Simucube board 1 and 2, already with the driver and USB controller integrated.
SERVO MOTOR

DRIVER MOTOR
In the beginning, there were Ioni Pro and Argon. Both had very good performance, although the Argon was better optimized and did not require a power supply as powerful as the Ioni.
SIMUCUBE 1 and 2
In addition, the Simucube 2 incorporates a Wireless receiver to be able to use button panels and paddle shifters without USB cable. But there are many Direct Drives Bases of other manufacturers.
MOTOR STAND
The most commonly used engine mounts were from Augury Simulations, Martin Ascher and Simracingbay.
It allows inclination of the motor to adjust it to our preference.
They were made of 3 mm thick stainless steel and include screws, washers and nuts.

VIDEO REVIEW OSW
Incredible

Well, what can I say about this marvel that hasn’t already been said here… from the magnificent treatment with Jesus from Augury, as well as with David who adapted the Fanatec rim for me, as well as with Carlos, to the excellent finishes of the kit. Really, if you can make the effort to buy it, do so, from the first second you know that it’s worth every cent of its price. I come from a T300 and this is totally different, I have no words to describe it. A thousand thanks to these people for this marvel!!
My life with the OSW

Well, after trying an Open Sim Wheel (OSW) for the first time a few months ago, I knew it was something I had to have, no matter what. I ordered the parts and with the help of David Moncho, in a few weeks I had the OSW up and running. The best thing about the OSW is not how hard you can set it, but that even if you set it softly, you notice every detail of the terrain, every pothole, every curb, you notice the weight of the car in mass transitions. You notice everything. It’s an investment of 1200 euros, but I think it’s been the best investment I’ve made in my sim racer career 🙂
OSW, a marvel of technology

The OSW is a marvel of technology. It is everything a sim racing wheel should be and much more. It is durable, precise and has more than enough power for anyone to adjust it to their needs, but it will never fall short. It is very configurable and its many options can be adjusted, not only so that each person can make it to their liking, but also so that the person can configure it to their liking based on each game with profiles for each occasion.
It is a Direct Drive Wheel, which means that it is a far superior and durable technology to commercial wheels such as Fanatec, Thrustmaster, etc. and just as good as the more professional options such as Accuforce or Leo Bodnar. I would say that it is even better than the Leo Bodnar, since behind OSW there is a large worldwide community, which works every day on software improvements, configuration improvements, etc. and that makes it a great product. It is also great to have different options when choosing the engine, depending on the needs and above all on the budget of each one, even being able to change or improve it whenever you want without depending on anyone, not even the manufacturer. Not to mention money, it is much cheaper than any of those options. It is the closest thing to reality that exists and will exist in terms of sensations and driving. If you are hesitating, do not think twice, it will make your Simracer life much happier!
A great investment

A big investment in every sense; space, dedication and budget… But it is definitely worth it and it is noticeable from the first contact and as time goes by it is appreciated more and more. Greater consistency, greater immersion, greater perception of the car and the road. Simply, you enjoy better driving and therefore, you become a better driver.
OSW, the revolution

I was inspired to take on this project because of the DIY approach, so I could have something made by myself and enjoy it. I thought that with a Fanatec CSW v1 I was more than satisfied, and once you try it you realise that what you’ve had up until now has been toys. Beyond the force that this type of steering wheel can exert, the sensations it offers are unlike anything I’ve tried before… you feel much more connected to the car and driving is much more natural, with a much more detailed and precise ffb. In short… the best investment I could have made in my simulator.
A steering wheel with real forces

After trying an Open Sim Wheel, all other commercial wheels seem like toys. You feel the ForceFeedBack instantly in live mode, just like on a real wheel. If you can afford it, this is the wheel for you, and at a much lower price than other PRO wheels on the market.
Pro Steering Wheel

Well, in my case I bought it second hand when I was 2-3 months old from a guy who sold everything he had…
In any case, the treatment has been the same. The guys at Augury have been there for whatever was needed. Interested and supportive.
So I’m very happy about that aspect, and it’s nice to know that there’s someone behind who answers.
And thanks to Carlos for being there at the forefront, willingly and kindly to help with whatever is needed, because sometimes I drive him crazy xD…
Regarding the Osw, and after having seen many videos, including some by Carlos, I realize that they weren’t exaggerating at all, it’s just as they say, impressive what it transmits, the reactions, without losses, and let’s not even talk about the power…
And that’s even though I’m coming from a v2, which is difficult to beat…
I’m still “green”, but I like this more and more, it hooks me more…
There’s a lot of potential there!
The most impressive thing I’ve ever tried, AMS with an F-V12, there are no words to describe the perfection and what that combination conveys… it’s simply SUPREME!!
You have to try it to understand it…
I have a steering wheel, I hope, for many years.
Thanks for everything!!
OSW with OCULUS
First of all I want to thank Mr. Latorre for his kindness and help, the truth is that I went to try the OSW and the OCULUS convinced (due to my short experience in Simracing) that I was not going to notice anything different from my T300 + the three screens, how wrong I was… it is impressive how you notice the weight of the car and when you play a piano how you notice the roughness of it, I have no words and with the Oculus you feel inside the car, I am more of a Dirt Rally person and you see the ravines as if you were there and I was not very into Assetto and after yesterday I am going to be a lot of Assetto because the feeling is of being inside the car 1:1. I can only say I CAN’T BELIEVE IT

Hello…I’m not going to tell you anything new that the rest haven’t already told you.
My project started to be manufactured at the end of November, I was unmotivated with what is sold on planet earth, an alcantara playseat and G27 that humbly gave me very good times and got me hooked on this wonderful world of racing.
What Carlos Casas projects on his website helps a lot to get you started at a much higher level, you have to read a lot, then build everything in your head, logically do the numbers, it’s not a cheap world, but it’s better than sharing a racing car and not being able to press the exhaust in the middle of a curve, they make the economic result worth it if you love this wonderful world.
In my case I wanted a cockpit that would give me lifetime guarantees, I asked Carlos for quotes, between Genesis and Sim Lab, and finally I ended up with the Sim Lab GT1 chassis. At the beginning of January I requested the cockpit, logically at that time it took quite a while due to the factory being closed for two weeks, it arrived at the beginning of February, because of all the delay Carlos was attentive to me. The cockpit assembly is not complicated, you just have to put together some furniture from our beloved Ikea to be able to start with guarantees and ease, anyway if you have doubts, Coach will solve it for you and send you plans, he is on top of everything. My opinion of both the Sim Lab GT1 cockpit and the external support for three screens is impressive, too robust and without play, there are no cons of any kind.
After experiencing a good purchase and confidence with Carlos Casas, I was encouraged with the Augury Kit, it is what this aluminum profile is missing, a good engine. The OSW contact is Jesus, you reserve the first part of the engine and its box and when they send it to you, you pay for the second part. I’m writing this and I think they’ve changed their website so that you can buy it without waiting as was my case, another point in their favor.
The kit is plug&play, some papers so you can see how the engine shaft is centered, some small tips for the EMI problems that these Panzers of the war tend to transmit and a few tips that you should look at on the Simracingcoah website so that everything goes clean and as silky from the first day.
If you have more problems, send an email to Jesus and he will answer you quickly. OSW opinion, very surprised with what he transmits, I still have to experiment, but the sensations are very good and it doesn’t make any noise.
Finally, the pro pedals from Heuksinveld E. ordered from Coach and in three working days at home via UPS.
What can I say about these pedals? The price is worth it when you step on the brake, what a blast… and the overall feel of the three is overwhelming. Its configuration is not complicated, everything is done through the Diview executable file. Carlos makes things very easy for you and answers all questions at any time of the day.
Gentlemen… do not continue reading… the treatment of both Carlos Casas and Jesus Perez is PERFECT, especially the after-sales service of products like the ones I have bought, Sim Lab GT1 cockpit, Augury OSW, HE pro pedals.
I wish you the best, thank you very much for everything.
First contact with a Simulator
The experience is incredible, the simulator transmits a sensation that can hardly be found in other entertainment systems.
At all times you feel that you are immersed in the situation:
The steering wheel reacts to your movements and the force feedback perfectly simulates the behavior of the steering in the different situations that arise, as well as counter-steering and any type of irregularity on the road.
The VR system is an experience that is difficult to explain, you are simply within the scene, you move both in rotation and in position within the cabin and the depths and sensation of speed feel real.
We also have to highlight the vibration system that makes you feel everything from the engine when you have just started it, to the kerbs. Any irregular surface will be immediately transmitted to the entire vibration system and makes you feel at all times whether you are on the track or off it.
And last but not least, the configuration of buttons, pedals and levers. All of them configured in such a way that the simulation is as close as possible, 1 to 1, to the experience lived in a real car.
Conclusion, it is a totally different way of experiencing the world of motors, in this case the simulation, from what I did before, together with my controller or some generic steering wheel, 100% recommendable!
Mini review OSW Small mige 5000 ppr – Kit Tomo Meglic

The kit comes with a very good finish, everything ready to plug in as far as the hardware part is concerned. On the software side you have to install drivers, firmware, etc. (I had some slight problems with the simplemotion v2 usb adapter, since windows did not install it and I had to put the drivers manually). The ones on granite did not work, since Tomo sends a diy simplemotion v2, so you have to install the usb-rj45 drivers from Ollie’s kit. I sent an email to Tomo about it and it took him a few minutes to respond, so full support for Tomo.
Well, for the wheel to work, in addition to the kit you have to buy or have a rim (I use the fanatec rim BMW M3 GT2, which I have changed the quickrelease for a holger Q1R, so I can connect it to the OSW). Then, for the buttons there are various options (bodnar pcb, or teensy lc, free project by François Andriew).
As for the FFB, it’s in another league. I’ve had G25, G27, CSW v1, V1.5 and Thrustmaster T300, and the sensations are from another world, not only because of the power, which is much superior, but also because of the way and fidelity that the OSW delivers. In addition, it corrects aspects of driving such as over-driving (the OSW now makes sure that I don’t do it as much), since you notice when you’re at the limit of grip. This has caused me to do my fastest lap in just a few laps (tests at Iracing in Laguna Seca, Ruf track).
On the other hand, I feel much more confident when tackling curves and I have better cornering thanks to the steering wheel; I can even avoid slips that I wouldn’t have thought about before. Also, by avoiding over-driving, I think it will keep the wheels in better condition until the end of the races. Best of all, I’m now using the th8rs shifter in sequential mode, which means I can drive many corners with one hand off the wheel. This causes me to lose time in a car that I would have to drive with the shifter on the steering wheel paddles, and even so I’ve already set a fast lap.
Greetings to all.
